Plants are fascinating and diverse organisms that have evolved to have a myriad of strategies to survive. These strategies rely on species managing vital resources and the associated tradeoffs. Our lab seeks to understand how plants manage carbon and water, seeking out novel processes and previously unknown strategies for survival.
But climate change is transforming their ability to grow, reproduce, and survive. This has major implications for how we interact with our planet. It threatens species diversity, ecosystem stability, carbon and water cycling, and our ability to utilize resources from our planet. Our work determines how plant mechanisms for survival respond to novel climate stress, developing predictive frameworks for future ecosystem responses to climate change.
